weekend update

A weekend update on a Tuesday:

I like to be unconventional like that. I cant say anything too too crazy went down on the last weekend before the Holiday madness took my sanity. Friday I went on a whirlwind shopping trip to one of the most crowded mall areas ever in Northern Virginia. Pentagon City boasts quite a line up of retailers and department stores. As if that wasnt enough, they decided to attach a shopping plaza to the mall with stores like Bed, Bath, and Beyond, etc. Across the street are Best Buy, Borders, and Costco. Needless to say parking is not plentiful, let alone when its Christmas time. I was like a man possessed moving from one store to another. For some reason, people found it cute to have some sort of walking disability and then always manage to stand/hobble right in front of me. Said people were usually overweight to the max and thus provided an even bigger obstacle for me to traverse. It was like I was training to go into the disabled marines or something. With the shopping done it was safe to head home and wrap these mothers.

Saturday was more shopping and wrapping with breaks ever so often to watch some episodes of Buffy. That girl is so crazy!

Sunday I went home to Annapolis to visit with the family and decorate cookies with my cousins. Kristin and I seemed to be in rare form with the cookie decorating. It is our opinion that Christmas cookies should never follow the color scheme of Christmas with green, red, and white. Instead we tend to make pastels or concoctions that we deem fit. This year we had a stellar chartreuse, raspberry, cantaloupe, and what I like to call rental car blue. I can only describe rental car blue as a blue-green car color that no one ever wants and therefore always winds up in rental car lots, or at Carmax. I found an excellent example on an old Ford Escort last night in the Toys R Us parking lot.

Yesterday, although not the weekend, proved to be a slow ass day on the job front. Being as it is Christmas week, everyone and their mom has left town. The metro isnt crowded, the workplace isnt crowded, and there isnt anything to do. Im not complaining, dont get me wrong; this is going be the best workweek ever. Friday will be the best since the president declared it a federal holiday. Since I work for the feds, but am not a government employee, I still have to work, but there will be absolutely nothing to do and everyone will take it off. Ill be able to drive downtown and park on the street for free which means I get to listen to music, smoke, and have my coffee mug in tow. I can also show up wheneverthefuck I feel like it.

Tomorrow Im heading to Annapolis after work and then spending the night and doing the whole Christmas/presents/bloody mary thing in the morning. After dinner Im heading back to Alexandria and going out with my former roommate for late night debauchery in downtown DC. Friday he is hosting a wine and cheese party with all the leftover alcohol from his Holiday Party. After that we will be going out again to shake it down and drop it like its hot. Its a week full of dance parties, liquor, and being lazy at work. Man this is great.

This morning I walked into my building and pressed the button to call the elevator. As soon as I did I saw the red lights flashing above the doors. I knew this couldnt be a good thing as soon an automated voice came on the PA system and announced a fire had been reported and that we needed to evacuate. So, what do people do? They sand out in the lobby of the building looking around and waiting for people. Did you not just hear what the voice said? It said to EVACUATE THE BUILDING, not stand around like a bunch of paint huffers. Jesus. Stupid people.
